Oakland Girl with Dreams to Inspire
I have to credit my parents for my interest in people. Both of my parents are “thinkers” and philosophical. I often had conversations with my parents about this world that we all share. These conversations made me think about people, our society, and ultimately how I can find ways to help others.
I was born and raised in Oakland, CA. Growing up, I had friends who were from the rich hills and others from “rougher” areas. I was somewhere in the middle. All of my friends were smart, capable, funny; and to me we were all the same. It didn’t matter where we were from because we were all friends. As I got older, I realized that there were differences that separated us - OPPORTUNITY. I’m no smarter or capable than anyone else - I was just blessed that I had people who took an interest in me. It was this realization that motivated me to go into the helping field. I wanted a chance to provide opportunities for change and growth for others. That continues to be my mission.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #91255.
I studied Psychology in Undergrad and graduated with my Master’s in Clinical Psychology in 2011. My work experience for the past decade has been doing case management for those diagnosed with severe mental illnesses (i.e. Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Depression, etc.). I got licensed as a MFT in 2015.
In 2018, I started my part-time practice where I do more “traditional” therapy. A lot of the conversations are around “adulting” and how to manage life, career, relationships, etc. I teach clients how negative thought patterns/language effect mood and behavior. Narrative and Solution Focused therapy assists in shifting from self-defeating language/thoughts to a positive life narrative. I utilize CBT and teach the basics of how thoughts effect behavior/mood. I teach mindfulness to help with coping.
At the end of the day, I always tell clients that we are going to have a dialogue. I try to facilitate honest conversations where we exchange ideas. I am deeply honored by all of those who have trusted me to know a small slice of their story.
